ST. PAUL PARISH COUNCIL

MEETING MINUTES

November 5, 2007 – 6:30 p.m.

Present:  Father Romanus, Paul Anderson, Sherry Kaminski, Linda Krowsky, Vince Sciano, Gerry Burant, Dick Kucharski, Sue Dolkiewicz, and Pat Sciano

Not Present:  Katrin Kempowski and Anne Uecker

The meeting began with Paul leading the opening prayer.

The minutes from the October meeting were reviewed and approved.

SE Meeting Room Update:  Janet Popelier has gotten estimates for repair of the north wall.  Father Romanus stated he would review these and pick a company to do the repair work.

Evangelization:  (1) Door hangers:  Gerry brought the template for the door hangers that he has been working on.  They were well done, and Sherry is going to purchase the necessary paper and get them printed.  There will be approximately 300 door hangers printed.  The Parish Council would like to get them distributed to homes before Christmas.  (2) Paul reported the Archdiocese has developed a new initiative to energize our parishes in regards to Evangelization.  It is entitled "Living Our Faith."  A packet of materials will be distributed to all parishes and these will include items such as posters, prayer cards, banners, etc. that can be displayed.  A TV program will be aired every Saturday on Channel 12 featuring Archbishop Dolan.

Christian Formation:  Katrin is going to be stepping down as liaison to the Christian Formation Committee.  Sue attends the meetings, and is willing to report back to the Parish Council on Christian Formation.

Paul reported several parishioners have approached him regarding changing the Mass schedule as it relates to the Religious Education program.  It is increasingly difficult for parents and children to make it to Mass at St. Paul's because of the Religious Education timetable.  It was felt more collaboration is needed between the two parishes as it relates to this schedule.  Paul is going to draft a letter to Karen Bushman representing the Parish Council to ask her to reconsider a time change and/or consider holding some classes at St. Paul’s.  He is also going to invite her to the December meeting to discuss the issue.  Father Romanus wants the Parish Council to evaluate the Religious Education program leadership before the contract renewal coming up in February/March 2008.

Home and School:  Linda brought up the issue of the need for St. Paul's to plan for scholarships for the next school year.  One idea was to have parents work on fundraising for their children and have the parish match the funds made in the fundraising effort.  Another idea that Sue mentioned that has worked well in the past is to use any overage that is made in a fundraising effort and put it toward the next year's tuition.  Placing a flyer in the bulletin asking for parental ideas is another way of spearheading this effort.

Honoring Stephanie Plasik and Bernie Glowinski:  Due to the generosity of Stephanie Plasik and Bernie Glowinski naming St. Paul’s as beneficiaries of their estates, it was thought it appropriate to honor them.  It was decided the school hall will be named Plasik Hall and the SE meeting room will be named Glowinski Meeting Room.   Name plaques will be ordered, and Paul is going to get some estimates for them.

Parish Directory:  Sherry has completed work on the new Parish Directory.  Father Romanus will give the information to Kay Mather, who will send it on to the printer.  In two to three weeks Sherry will receive galley sheets for final proofing.  The directories will then be printed at the beginning of December and mailed to parishioners.

Paul is going to rework the Time and Talent form and bring it to the next Parish Council meeting.  After parishioners receive the new directories, the Time and Talent forms will be passed out at all the masses.

Updates from Father Romanus:

Renovation of the church began on Monday, November 5 with removal of the pews and pulling up of the old carpeting.  The marble pieces will start to be taken down early Tuesday morning.  The Archdiocese approved the proxy letter sent by Father Romanus for spending an additional $20,000.00 for the renovation.

Bob Pizur is making new candleholders to match the new altarpieces.  The metal pieces that will be placed on top of the candleholders were ordered through Stempers.

A parishioner, who is a nurse, expressed interest to Father Romanus regarding starting a program after Mass for parishioners who would like to have their blood pressure checked.    This would be done the second Sunday of each month.  Linda is going to contact her to setup a schedule.

Matt Lewandowski and Mike Bodgonovich, of Building and Grounds, recently placed aluminum soffit and fascia trim on the convent and fixed the light fixture outside the SE meeting room by lowering it to make changing the bulbs easier.

Mike Bogdonovich spoke to Father Romanus regarding the Unity Meal Program.  Unity Church has stated their meal program is almost depleted of funds.  Second Harvest donates most of the food; however, the meal program purchases the meat.  They have requested St. Paul's help with donating money for replenishing their food supply.  The Parish Council rejected this idea.  One possible way of working this out is if Clarice Andrykowski and Sue Madunich, who run the meal program when it's St. Paul's turn to fix and serve the meal, highlight food they need and ask parishioners to donate what is needed.  This will continue to be discussed.

Father Romanus gave his approval for Human Concerns to hold a bake sale the first Sunday of each month with money made going to support a program to help people in our area who are in need.

The new altar will be dedicated and blessed by Bishop Sklba at the 9:00 a.m. Thanksgiving Day Mass.

Bishop-elect William Callahan has been named new auxiliary bishop to the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.

Father Romanus is expecting to receive a check from the Festival Committee shortly.  This check will go toward our parish assessment that we pay the Archdiocese every year.

The meeting ended at 8:20 p.m.

Father Romanus has the opening prayer at the December meeting.  New pictures of the Parish Council will be taken at the December meeting.

Respectfully submitted by:  Pat Sciano, Parish Council Secretary
