ST. PAUL PARISH COUNCIL

MEETING MINUTES

October 1, 20076:30 p.m.

Present:  Father Romanus, Paul Anderson, Sherry Kaminski, Katrin Kempowski, Vince Sciano, Linda Krowsky, Sue Dolkiewicz, Anne Uecker, and Pat Sciano

Not Present:  Gerry Burant and Dick Kucharski

The meeting began with Pat giving the opening prayer.

The minutes from the September meeting were reviewed and approved.

Katrin, reporting on Christian Formation, stated the Baptismal anniversary Mass would be held on Sunday, October 7th.  She reported Karen Bushman had mixed feelings regarding implementing the “Generations of Faith” program, due to the fact the whole faith community needs to be committed to this, as it includes adult religious formation as well.  She is unsure of people’s willingness to participate.

Christian Formation would like to hold a fundraiser in the future, possibly a breakfast close to Easter.

The blessing of pets will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 3rd.

Linda reported that Home and School is finding it difficult to get parents of school children involved in meetings.  It was felt that parents who have children attending STAA be mandated to attend two Home and School meetings a year.  Also, ideas need to be explored in order to create fundraising opportunities.

Sue Madunich, Human Concerns, was not in attendance to give her report on what activities she would like to engage in as far as the fundraising efforts she has in mind.

St. Veronica’s is holding a fundraiser for a young woman who is seriously ill and is actually a member of St. Paul’s.  It was thought it important that St. Paul’s do something like this to help support this young woman also.  Sue Dolkiewicz mentioned she is holding a Holiday Fair again this year, and we could coordinate a breakfast with raffles, etc. to help raise money for this woman for her daily expenses.  This will again be discussed as the time gets closer.

Evangelization – 200 door hangers will be placed at homes.

Paul is going to get the information to Sherry from the Gathering Book in order for her to work it into the new Parish Directory.  The deadline for printing is October 22nd.  Sherry is also working on adding information about the history of St. Paul’s.

The gratitude notices are being written by Katrin and Chris Fogarty and printed in the bulletin.

A new database has been purchased for the church office and Katrin has been entering information on parishioners, making it possible to pull up any information quickly and easily.

It was discussed that it has been a very long time since St. Paul’s had a women’s group.  Sue Dolkiewicz is going to work up a form that will be handed out to find out what specifically women of the parish might be interested in.

UPDATES FROM FATHER ROMANUS

Father Romanus is thinking of holding Bible study classes starting this Advent possibly on Wednesday evenings.  He is thinking of teaching Church history during Advent and Scripture study during Lent.

Father drafted another proxy letter to the Archdiocese requesting approval to spending an additional $20,000.00 for the church renovation.  Included in this cost would be carpeting the choir loft and the two stairways leading up to it.

Father Romanus, Sherry, and Vince are going to meet with a representative of Hahn’s Badger Carpet Service this week to finalize the carpeting of the sanctuary area; the carpeting will then be ordered.

Father Romanus attended one of the planning sessions held by the Archdiocese for priests in September.  The calculation is that there are only 30 priests under the age of 55 and in 13 years all those over 55 will have retired.  Due to the small number of priests ordained each year, it is probably only a matter of time when merging of parishes will be forced to take place.  This will continue to be discussed and studied.

The meeting ended at 8:30 p.m.

The next meeting will be on Monday, November 5 with Dick leading the opening prayer.

Respectfully submitted by:  Pat Sciano, Parish Council Secretary
