Candidates for Parish Council/STAA School Advisory Board:  Sue Dolkiewicz, and
Anne Uecker

The meeting began at 6:30 with everyone present reciting the opening prayer.  Parish Council members introduced themselves to the candidates stating the different committees everyone was acting on as liaison.  The parish Mission Statement was read by all.   Paul then passed out copies of one aspect of the Parish Council Manual dealing with the essential characteristics of the Parish Council.  Paul went on to explain the workings of a Parish Council, how liaisons to the various committees bring reports back to the Council after attending committee meetings, and what the Council is currently working on to strengthen within the Parish, namely Stewardship and Evangelization.

Sherri went on to describe the terms of the School Advisory Board and what is expected as far as meeting attendance and participation in one of the committees connected to the Board.

Paul, Sherri, and Pat then followed with a series of questions directed to the candidates regarding how each felt called to serve, what special qualifications they felt they would bring to the Council, and their ability to meet the requirements of membership.  Fr. Romanus and other Council members then asked questions of the candidates.  Sue and Anne made their final statements and were dismissed from the meeting.  The process of selection then took place with the Council voting Anne as Parish Council/School Advisory Board Representative.  Pat will contact the candidates with the Council’s decision.

Updates from Father Romanus

Father Romanus stated he would be writing the proxy letter very shortly.  The purpose of this letter is to give the Archdiocese the information it needs to consider whether St. Paul’s can make much needed renovations to the Church (i.e. replacing the altar, carpeting, and other fixtures).

The priests of our parish cluster recently met to discuss who would be taking on the role of new Pastor Designate for St. Thomas Aquinas Academy School Advisory Board.  Fr. Romanus was selected to fill this position, which he accepted.

Graduation of the 8th grade class was held at St. Paul’s on Saturday, June 2, 2007, with
Fr. Romanus presiding at the Mass.  Father felt it is important to collaborate more with
St. Veronica’s on programs and activities.  It was felt that it is important for more activities to come back and be held here at St. Paul’s.  Discussions on this will be held in the future.

Our organist Charles Rehorst met with Father and asked if he could have a pay increase.  Father Romanus felt this was needed and should be done.

The organ renovation project is nearly completed with the final finishing touches being addressed.

The work on the living room in the Rectory following the accident this past winter is finished.  It’s possible the Council might begin using the room for meetings again.

A small neighborhood magazine entitled “The Bay View Compass” was passed around for Council members to review.  It was thought it might be a good idea to buy an ad to advertise St. Paul’s but it was determined it was not very cost efficient.  As part of our evangelization project, the Council has been discussing ways of promoting our parish to neighboring homes.  One way that has been discussed is developing a post card to place at homes within our neighborhood to spark people’s interest in St. Paul’s.  This will continue to be discussed.

The Council discussed replacing the sign on the corner of Brust and Howard with one that is more attractive.  Permission would have to be given by the LaSallette missionaries, since the sign rests on their property.

Atlas Academy will be renewing their contract with St. Paul’s in July.

A small party was held as a thank you to both Gerry Burant and Sue Kakatsch for acting as Secretary and Alternate to the Council respectively, with everyone bringing treats to share.

The meeting concluded at 8:30 p.m.  The next Council meeting will be held Monday,
July 9, 2007
, at 6:30 p.m.

Paul will be leading the opening prayer for the July meeting.

Respectfully submitted by:  Pat Sciano, Parish Council Secretary
