Parish Council Discernment
The
meeting began with all those present reciting the "Living Our Faith"
prayer.
Current
Parish Council members introduced themselves to the candidates; the candidates
then introduced themselves to the Council.
Paul
began the discernment process by explaining the mission of our parish and the
purpose of the Parish Council.
Sherry
explained some of the projects the Council has taken on and completed in the
last year; she also explained the structure of the School Advisory Board and
their meeting process.
Paul,
Sherry, and Pat, as officers of the Council, asked the candidates to express
their vision for the future of St. Paul's and comment on what gifts, talents,
and qualifications they would bring to the Council. After this discussion took place, candidates
were then given the opportunity to make any final comments. They were then thanked for their willingness
to serve on the Council and were then free to leave. A closed discernment took place by the
current Council members. It was agreed
that Rob Bohlmann, Carla Neldner, and Mike Bogdonovich become acting members of
the Parish Council for the next three years with Tom Swirkowski acting as alternate. Carla also expressed an interest in becoming
a member on the School Advisory Board.
Katrin will contact the candidates to let them know of the Council's
decision.
Old Business
The
Parish Council has been thinking about possibly setting up a Sister Parish
relationship with St. Benedict's Church in Nigeria. This would be something we could work on as a
parish in the future.
The
Time and Talent forms will continue to be collected through the weekend of May
10-11.
The
Faith in Our Future Campaign has held a workshop of the leadership teams at
Blessed Sacrament Parish. RSI, who is
the coordinating company for the campaign, did a presentation and stated
information would be sent to parishes to explain what comes next. A process will be started with parishes and
each parish must then decide what to do with the
60 percent of the money that it will maintain through the campaign. It was suggested
St. Paul's hold a town hall meeting or forum in order to give parishioners a
chance to voice their ideas about how and where the money should be spent.
Father
Romanus will address the issue before the Masses on the weekend of May
17-18. Father will also get in touch
with the consultant from RSI to find out if he will be available to speak at
the Masses also.
Selection of Parish Council Officers for 2008-2009
Katrin
Kempowski agreed to represent the Council as president for the next year;
Paul Anderson agreed to act as Vice Chair.
The position of Secretary still needs to be filled.
Updates from Father Romanus
The
Business Manager position has been filled.
Patrice Hansen has accepted the position, which will be on a part-time
basis of 20 hours per week. The Parish
Secretary position is about to be filled, and this will be on a full-time
basis.
Mary
Stallmann, principal of STAA, is seeking another position, so an interview team
is being set up to find a replacement for her position at the school.
Father
Romanus stated a youth Mass will be held next year on a quarterly basis as a
collaborative effort between St. Paul’s and St. Veronica’s.
The
meeting ended at 8:45 p.m. The next
meeting will be Monday, June 2, 2008.
Respectfully
submitted by: Pat Sciano, Parish Council
Secretary
