ST. PAUL PARISH COUNCIL

MEETING MINUTES

April 7, 2008 – 6:30 p.m.

Present:  Father Romanus, Paul Anderson, Sherri Kaminski, Linda Krowsky, Katrin Kempowski, Sue Dolkiewicz, Vince Sciano, Dick Kucharski, Karen Bushman, Anne Uecker, and Pat Sciano

The meeting began with Linda leading the opening prayer.

The minutes from the March meeting were reviewed, amended, and approved.

Religious Education

The proposals brought up at the March meeting regarding Religious Education were discussed.  Katrin presented estimates for the various equipment needed for holding classes at St. Paul’s.  The cost would be approximately $1,500.00.  If video equipment needs to be purchased, that would add approximately $500.00 to the cost.  Storage of equipment still needs to be addressed.  There is room under the stage and possibly on the stage itself.  Under stage storage needs to be cleared out of any tables that are no longer in working order.

Sherri and Father Romanus took a tour of Atlas Academy earlier in the day.  There would be two classrooms at the north end of the building available for our use.  This will need to be discussed and approved by the principal.  Karen stated an answering machine needed to be made available for parents to phone in if their child will be absent. Glowinski Hall will be utilized for Adult Formation classes.  There is one catechist from St. Paul’s who is currently teaching; so three more would be needed.  Karen is planning to place a message in the bulletin along with a job description explaining what is required of teachers.  Presently, no RCIA or RCIC classes are held at St. Paul's – a team from St. Veronica’s presently teaches these classes.  Paul will add the categories of “RCIA” and “Catechists” to the Time and Talent form.  Registration for Religious Ed. will take place in June.

Time and Talent

The Time and Talent form will be placed in the bulletin within the next couple of weeks.  Parishioners will be given two weeks in which to return them.  The form can also be viewed on St. Paul's website and sent to the parish office via e-mail.

Ballots for Parish Council

The ballots for nominating parishioners to serve on the Parish Council will be accepted through Monday, April 14.  Paul will get the nominees’ names to Vince, Pat, and Katrin for them to contact.  Discernment of candidates will take place at the May 5th Parish Council meeting.  Father Romanus will be re-nominating Bob Pleva for another two-year term as Trustee.

Vision 21 Document

Paul spoke about the Vision 21 document from the Archdiocese.  He sent all Parish Council members the document via e-mail for review.  This is in draft form currently, and the Archdiocese would like input from parishioners to address concerns regarding the future of our parishes.  At this point in time, the Archdiocese is not requesting that any parish close, but it may suggest priests begin collaborating and sharing parish duties.  Another proposal in the document is having parish councils merge in order to take some of the administrative pressures off of the priests.

Sister Parish

Paul will continue to look for information regarding developing a sister parish with
St. Benedict’s in Nigeria.

Updates from Father Romanus

Shari Azinger, Marketing Director for Howard Village, spoke with Father and said she would like to develop some programs and begin working with the elderly of our parish.

Within the next couple of years, STAA would like to implement one class per grade in place of combining some of the grades as is now being done.

Father should be receiving information in the next couple of weeks regarding our participation in the Capital Campaign, which will begin for us in July.

The two positions of Parish Secretary and Business Manager need to be filled as Kay and Janet leave their positions.  Father will be placing advertisements in the Catholic Herald.

The meeting ended at 8:15 p.m.  The next meeting is Monday, May 5, 2008, with Vince leading the opening prayer.

Respectfully submitted by Pat Sciano, Parish Council Secretary
