ST. PAUL PARISH COUNCIL MEETING

March 6, 2006 – 6:30 p.m.

Present:  Daryl Olszewski, Gerry Burant, Linda Krowsky, Sheryl Kaminski, Kerry Anderson, Jeff Madunich, and Pat Sciano

Not Present:  Ann Pawlak and Vince Sciano

Gerry spoke briefly regarding the meeting that took place on Sunday, March 5th at
St. Veronica’s between the council members of our five cluster parishes.  He noted everything went extremely well.  Everyone present was open to working with one another.  Goals and ideas were discussed, as well as current concerns that everyone is experiencing.

Julie Pach was in attendance to finish the Stewardship Assessment with the Parish Council.  She will compile all of the information gathered and prepare a summary for the Council to implement in our continuing vision of promoting Stewardship within the parish community.  She will present the summary of her findings at the next Parish Council meeting on April 3rd.

Mary Cajski, who reported findings to the Parish Council in the area of Accounting and Finance, resigned from the Council due to personal reasons.  Daryl will be trying to find someone who is familiar with accounting practices to take Mary’s place.

Daryl also discussed the possibility of two staff positions being vacated in the near future.  Frank Plachinski has made it known he is going to step down as Business Manager.  Frank acts as the Comptroller for the parish; he checks and approves bills as they are received.  He presently works three mornings a week and is paid a $250.00 per month stipend.  Many parishes have a full-time manager who handles these administrative duties as well as overseeing care of the buildings on the property.  The parish might consider a person for this position; however, weekly contributions would have to increase in order to pay for this position.  Daryl is presently consulting with a Financial Advisor to determine if this idea is feasible.  Bob Pleva’s two-year term as Parish Trustee-Treasurer will soon be ending.  It is conceivable he may accept another term.  Kay Mather, our Parish Secretary, is also contemplating another knee surgery, which will probably happen as the new pastor is starting his tenure with the parish.  A temporary secretary/receptionist will need to be found while Kay recuperates.

A relatively good response was received in regard to nominations for both the Parish Council and the School Advisory Board.  As far as the Advisory Board nominations are concerned, Karen Bushman may be asked to facilitate this.  If so, she will be paid a stipend.  There will be a separate discernment for Parish Council nominees and for School Advisory Board nominees.  Nominees to the Parish Council will be invited to attend the April 3rd Parish Council meeting, and their discernment will take place at the May 1st meeting.  The nominees to the School Advisory Board will be invited to attend the April 4th School Board meeting at St. Veronica’s at 7:00 p.m.  Discernment will be contingent on Karen Bushman’s schedule, if she is in fact going to be doing the discernment.

Daryl noted the easement requested by SBC of placing a utility cabinet on the parish grounds would not be progressing.  Daryl and the Parish Council felt that the land that would have been set aside for the easement would be of much greater value for future use by the parish than the amount SBC was willing to pay the parish for their use of it.

The meeting ended at 9:00 p.m. with a closing prayer.

Ann is scheduled to give the opening prayer at the April 3rd meeting.

Respectfully submitted by:

Pat Sciano
