Parish Council Minutes

March 2, 2009

Guest Speakers Presentation:

 

Before meeting started Kerry Godfrey wanted the Council to hear his and his wife’s idea about starting a bag lunch ministry at our parish.  The Council was receptive to this idea and ideas where thrown around as to where we could go with this as far as helping the needy.  The Human Concerns Committee will work with the Godfrey’s as to how we can get this started.

 

Review of February Minutes – The minutes were reviewed and were accepted by the Council with only one minor change.

 

New Business:

 

The Council was given a letter from St. Veronica’s to review.  This letter’s

purpose was to come to a conclusion on how our parish was going to pay Karen Bushman for her services to our parishioners.  Father Romanus discussed with us the history of how this issue has come about and why this matter still needs to be resolved.  The Council suggested that we invite Karen to put together a synopsis of how her time is spent working for our parish.    The Council told Father Romanus to let St. Veronica’s know that we feel that the amount they are charging us  too much and we need to discuss this further.  Jim Hooper and Paul Anderson will advise Father if he needs any assistance with this.

 

Youth Minister and Business Manager – Our current youth minister, Joan Harter, has given her notice and will resign the position at the end of May, 2009.  Also, our Business Manager, Patrice Hansen, has also given her notice.   Father will put an ad in the paper to get a new youth minister and business manager as soon as possible.

There will be slips for Parish Council nominees in the church pews two weeks before our next Council meeting.   We want to do this in order to give parishioners enough time to think of who they would like to nominate.  We are looking for fill 3 positions on the Council.

 

Committee Report – Buildings and Grounds – given by Mike Bogdonovich:

 

Mike handed all the Parish Council members a report on the Buildings and Grounds committee so far this year.  On this report was listed the accomplishments of the committee this year and also items they are looking at for the future.   There was determined that with CCD Classes being held at our parish now, that we might have to order an additional heater for Glowinski Hall.  (A copy of the report is attached to these minutes.)

 

Father Romanus Report:

 

We will be having another Picture Directory for our parish, since the last one we have was from several years ago.  We will be having Olan Mills do this book for us and it will be free to all parishioners.  Father passed around a sample book.

 

Church Bells need to be replaced.  Father has worked on some estimates for us and a new system would cost us approximately $12,000.  The company he is working with will let us sample the system for a month so we can determine if we want to go with them or not.

 

Parish Budget -  they will be working on the budget so it will be ready by July 1.
